FAQs

Adhesive Tape

What’s the ideal way to peel off tape or remove any glue stains?

There are various ways to peel off tape depending on the type of tape and the surface it’s stuck on. Here are a few of those ways.

・Warm it to peel off

Slowly pull the tape off from its edge. If it proves hard to peel off, use a dryer to warm it up, which should make it easier.

If glue stains remain

・Method 1

Use a separate tape to repeatedly dab the area in order to pick up the remains.

・Method 2

Soak water mixed with neutral detergent into the area where the glue stains are, and then shave them off with a spatula or similar implement.

・Method 3

Scrape it off using “Utility Knife to Remove Tape for Home Repairs” and a solvent such as kerosene or benzine.

・Method 4

Use Nitoms’ adhesive cleaner or another substance for peeling off tape available on the market.

Caution
Please take care not to damage the surface that the tape is stuck to or peel off the surface’s paint or wall paper.

In particular make sure that kerosene and benzine won’t harm the surface before using them.

If it’s stuck to glass, please do not use a dryer on it, as the glass may shatter with the heat.
I still have the cardboard core from the tape I previously used, but I can’t remember what type of tape it was.

If it’s one of our tapes, it can be guessed which one it is by questioning 4 different aspects.

  • Was it a one-sided or double-sided tape?
  • What color was the tape?
  • Can you remember the thickness of the tape?
  • Were you able to tear it with your hands?
Please feel free to inquire at our customer support office and specify the place of usage and what you used the tape for.

  • Are there some materials to which the tape doesn't stick to that well?

Rubber, polypropylene and polyethylene are materials onto which the tape doesn’t stick well. We have specialized double-sided tape for these materials, so please select a tape based on your usage (for example Ultra Strong Double-Sided Adhesive Tape for Plastic).
Surfaces that don’t stick well include those that are made to be waterproof or anti-dirt, damp or uneven surfaces, and surfaces with dirt or dust on them. For surfaces that are wet or have dirt or dust, the tape can stick after cleaning the surface. If they’re wiped with a detergent, the tape may be hard to stick on due to remaining detergent on the surface, so please stick on the tape after cleaning and wiping up completely. We have specialized tape especially for unevenly-made surfaces so please select here (Strong Double-Sided Adhesive Tape with Rough Surface Tracking).

    Caution
Depending on the purpose (preservation, waterproofing, laminating) the tape to select will differ, so if you have any questions please contact our customer support office.
What is the difference between the “adhesion” and “retention” double-sided tape?

Adhesion is the power an object has to stick to a surface.

Retention is the action of keeping in place while holding an object on a vertical surface such as a wall.
Tape for retention has its target load written on its packaging.

What materials can’t double-sided tape be stuck to?

Below is a list of typical materials.

    1. Silicone-type resin, fluororesin

As the surfaces of these materials lack tension, the tape cannot be stuck to them.

    2. Polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP)

As the surfaces of these materials lack tension, they don’t allow tape to stick well. Please use tape especially for polyethylene, polypropylene or plastic surfaces.

    3. Vinyl chloride

These products include plasticizer, and if this transitions to the adhesive its adhesive ability will degrade. Please use tape especially made for vinyl chloride.

    4. Rubber

There is tape especially for rubber, but as there are many different types of rubber (including chloroprene rubber, EPT rubber, natural rubber, etc) there are still some materials, such as silicone rubber, that the tape won’t stick to, even though it is especially designed for rubber.

The adhesive surface of the tape is bending upwards, making it difficult to use.

This happens when you peel off just the release paper first.
It will return to normal by peeling off one round of just the tape’s adhesive surface.

What is the target heat resisting temperature of the tape?

If there’s no particular indication, the target heat resisting temperature is 80°C for acrylic adhesives and around 60°C for rubber adhesives.

[Adhesive Tape for Carpet Fixing] has no glue. Is this a defect?

The side you stick to the floor is made to be adhesive (a special type of sucker) so there is no glue used.
Thanks to this, there is no need to worry about getting glue stuck to the floor.

How do you stick on [Adhesive Tape for Carpet Fixing]?

    (1) Completely wipe off any liquid or dirt from the floor (when doing so, do not use a disposable wipe with chemicals).
    (2) Cut the tape to match the length of the carpet’s perimeter.
    (3) Once the positioning is decided, make sure to first stick the adhesive side of the tape onto the floor, then apply pressure (do not stick it to the carpet side).
    (4) Peel off the release paper of the tape, cover the carpet over it and press down strongly to fix it into place.

Can I also use [Adhesive Tape for Carpet Fixing] on heated floors and electric carpets?

Can [Peelable, Strong Double-Sided Adhesive Tape] be used on paper, soft materials, and painted surfaces that peel off easily?

[Butyl Rubber Self-Bonding Tape] doesn’t have any glue. Is this a defect?

The Butyl Rubber Self-Bonding Tape is a tape where the tapes stick together (self-adhesive), so they don’t need glue. Apply it by stretching the tape gently while twisting it around the subject while also layering it over around half of itself each time around. The different layers of tape stick and adhere to each other.

    <Method of use>

Gently stretch the 19mm-wide tape until it becomes around half the size while twisting it around and layering it over half of itself each time around.
The layers of tape stick together.
Note: Be careful that no air bubbles occur.
Note: It won’t stick together if you don’t stretch it.

When peeling it off, please use a cutter knife or similar implement.

Use cases are written on the packaging of products.

If it’s left to stick for a long period of time while exposed directly to sunlight, or if it’s used in places of high temperature, it may leave glue stains after being peeled off.
Also, it may not be able to peel off after paint (for coating) or silicone sealant (for joint filling) appied to it has dried, so in such cases please peel off the masking tape soon after usage.
Note: Depending on the adherend there may be glue stains, so please check beforehand before using.
